Why sizing varies
so much by country

Clothing sizes are not standardised internationally β€” each country developed its own system based on different measurement traditions, body proportions, and industry conventions. A US size 8 is not the same as a UK size 8, and an EU 40 doesn’t mean the same thing across every European brand.

This is especially true for online shopping, where you’re often buying from international retailers without the ability to try anything on. Using a reliable size converter is one of the simplest ways to reduce returns and shop with confidence.

Measure yourself, don’t guess

Your most accurate size comes from a tape measure. Bust, waist, and hips for clothing; foot length in centimetres for shoes.

A US women’s size 8 is equivalent to a UK size 12. US and UK women’s clothing sizes differ by 4 β€” so to convert US to UK, add 4. For example, US 4 = UK 8, US 6 = UK 10, US 10 = UK 14, and so on.
A US women’s size 8 is approximately EU size 40. EU sizing is based on body measurements in centimetres, so conversions can vary slightly by brand and country (French, Italian, and German sizing all follow slightly different scales). EU 40 is the most common equivalent for US 8.
